Tall Chess App Reviews

This update should fix the issues people were having. The tall board may seem silly at first, but I find that it makes the game easier to read at a glance, the pieces easier to distinguish quickly, and provides a bigger hit area for making moves. Now all the square chess apps out there feel crowded to me.

Chess always looks wrong on screens, because the pieces have to squish to fit in a square grid. And chess games on the iPhone always waste a ton of screen space, because the board is square and your phone is a long rectangle. These guys solved both design problems with one crazy decision, changing the shape of the board itself. Now the pieces look right and the game uses your whole screen. Latest version works much better with Game Center opponents. So good.

Simply the best looking chess app out there (Ive tried them all).

This chess app looks great, but thats its only redeeming quality. No sounds, no timer, no option to take back a move against the computer. Moving pieces is awkward, requiring you to drag the piece and then swipe down. Its slow and frustrating. Also, there are expensive in-app purchases to customize the computer AI. Finally, the elongated board makes assessing the game difficult because theres so much more up-down space than left-right space. Reading knight movements is especially hard. Overall, not recommended.

Waited forever for them to bring this one back!! Best chess game on the App Store, hands down.

Great graphics and simple design! I think the board should be a square though, and I would also like the placing/moving of pawns to be easier! And a customizable board
